# Why?

## The Problem

- OER might be PDF only
- OER might be MS Office formats only
- OER might be hosted externally
- Ancillary materials might be hosted externally
- OER might not be accessible

## The Goal

OER that is **better** than commercial texts:

- Multiple, accessible formats
- Hosted on LMS

## How Do We Get There?

Relying on individual instructors to do the work is madness!

- Ain't nobody got time for that!
- The greatest improvement in the productive powers of labour, and the greater part of the skill, dexterity, and judgment with which it is anywhere directed, or applied, seem to have been the effects of the division of labour.

# How?

## Do the Work Once, Distribute Widely

Authors + Editors + Peer Reviewers +
Intructional Designers + IT Support
=> Packaged Content
=> LMS
=> Students

## "Content Packaging"?

_Content Packaging_: My slight abuse of terminology to mean a single file that can be uploaded to an LMS (or LOR) to populate the content of a course.

## LOR?

A _learning object repository_ stores content that can be imported directly into an LMS without needing to download/upload files.

- Others?
